« Made by the vow of Daqing Fawang Rin-chen dpal-ldan of Da Huguo Bao’an Monastery on an ausipicious day (or the first day) in the jiaxu (ninth) month of the jiaxu year (1514) of Zhengde »3

This Thangka represents the purification deity « Vajravidāraṇa » (Tib. rdorje rnam ‘joms), a semi-wrathful aspect of Vajrapāṇi and the personification of the « dhāraṇī », surrounded by buddhas and wrathful deities.

Beside the year and name of the emperor, this inscription mentions the name of a a religious leader :

« Daqing Fawang Lingzhan Bandan (Rin-chen dpal-ldan) », and a monastery, « Da Huguo Bao’an ».

This Thangka is part of a group of paintings all dated by inscriptions in Chinese and kept in various museums or private collections, Musée Guimet Paris, Victoria & Albert Museum London, Boston Museum of Arts, Museum of University of California, and private Berluzzi collections.
